Reading
One of the best things about first grade is that we learn to read.  Each day we practice our reading in small groups and by ourselves.  When you are helping your child at home, always ask "Does what you read make sense?"  When figuring out a new word, your child needs to think of the sounds the letters make as well as what sounds
right in the sentence and fits in with the sense of the story and pictures.
Encourage your child to read the little "Just Right Reading" book that he/she brings home each day.  It is fun for your child to read to you, grandmother and grandfather, aunts and uncles, friends, and to brothers and sisters.  Just read, read, read!
