Vocabulary
October, 2008
Each week we have fun learning to use words that are new to us.  We do not have to read or write these words, but we try to use them when we are talking or listening to books that are read to us.  Vocabulary knowledge is fundamental to reading comprehension--one cannot understand text without knowing what most of the words mean.
Our words for this week are: comforting, expression, lively, fleet, glimmer, versatile.  At home you could ask these questions at suppertime or at bedtime:
1. How is a spoon versatile? (Name many different things for which a spoon can be used.)
2. What is comforting to you? (What is something that makes you feel better when you are sad or afraid?)
3. Name an animal that is fleet. (What animal is very fast?)
4. Can you show a happy expression on your face?  A sad one?  An angry one? (Your expression shows how you feel.)
5. Can you do a lively little dance? (Show that you are energetic and full of life.)
6. Can you find something that glimmers? (A ring, the stars, or a shiny bracelet would glimmer.)
