February 2008

A Letter From the Principal, Mrs. Holmquist-Burks

We were thrilled to see 75-100 people attend our January Family Night sing-a-long, book walk, and PTA (Parent, Teachers Association) talk.

February is a busy month for us at Franklin.  Along with our regular schedules and programs, we hosted National African American Family Involvement Day on Monday, Feb. 11.  This was a day when ALL parents and guardians were invited to spend time with us during our school day, visiting classes, enjoying a free lunch, and recess with their student.  Over 12 families chose to spend all or part of the day with their students, here at Franklin.  We appreciate your involvement.

Spring Conferences are coming up in March.  Please return your conference date registration forms by Monday, Feb. 25.  Parents are strongly encouraged to come to school twice each year to discuss their child/children's program and go over the report card.

During the winter months there are days when the weather may cause the school district to cancel classes or delay school starting times; listen to the radio or television for news about weather related school delays or closings.  The Superintendent of Saint Paul Public Schools makes the decision on school closings as a result of inclement weather.  This decision is usually made by 5:30 a.m. of the day in question.

Please continue to drop off and pick up all students at the north parking lot and entrance of our school.  Remember, do not send your child to school before 8:35 a.m., as students are not allowed in the building before this time.  Thank you for

Site Council Needs You!
Franklin Music Magnet needs YOU to be a part of our Site Council Advisory Team.  Our next meeting will be held on Monday, March 10th, from 6-7:30, in the Library.  Your input is needed to run a successful program at Franklin.  Child care and interpreters will be provided.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to call me at school at 293-8620.   We have an excellent staff of professionals here to help you and your student(s) on their educational journey.

We are Grateful to our Book Buddies!

Employees of nearby businesses have been involved in Franklin Music Magnet's Read Aloud Program since 1996, with many volunteers returning year after year, and continuing with the same student whenever possible.  We are still looking for more volunteers, so if you know of a a business that may be interested, please contact Chris Anning at 293-8620.
