In our Writer's Workshop, we have  done an author's study,  a poetry unit, and now we are currently writing personal narrative.

In the Fall, our class studied Mem Fox in our author study.  We read many of her books:  Koala Lou, Possum Magic, Time for Bed, Hattie and the Fox, and many more.  We learned about her writing style with its rhyming words and descriptive language.  We compared and contrasted her books, learned about her native country of Australia and began to understand that authors often write stories based on their own personal experience.

Our Poetry unit included reading many poems as a whole class.  We chanted, sang and read aloud poems.   We wrote several poems including a Color poem, and an I Like Poem.   We illustrated a sunset poem by using watercolors.
Our Color poems were put into a book and we had an enjoyable time reading  them to each other.

We have just begun our personal narrative stories.  We are writing about personal stories from our own lives.   For example:  places we've been to, fun times we've had with family or friends and things we like.   During this unit, we have learned about the stages real writers go through when they write a story.
