Vocal Music at Franklin Music Magnet provides numerous
opportunities for students to develop and showcase their musical
talents. All students at Franklin attend general vocal music classes on
a regular basis. In addition to general music, students have the
opportunity to audition for our 100-voice enrichment choir as well as
for musical theater classes. We partner with various organizations
throughout the Twin Cities area to expand opportunities for musical
development, including: Ordway Center for Performing Arts, Minnesota
Composers' Forum, The Minnesota Sinfonia, The Rose Ensemble,
Vocalessence, Witness (Artists and Residents in the Schools),
University of Minnesota, and The Minnesota Orchestra.
General Music: This
course emphasizes singing, listening, movement, performing on classroom
instruments, improvising and composing skills. Students develop ear
training and note-reading skills as they sing and perform on Orff
and other percussion and melodic instruments. All students are
encouraged to showcase their voices and musical skills at monthly
family nights at Franklin Music Magnet. Students needing more challenge
are encouraged to audition for choir and/or private lessons.
Advanced Choir: Choir is open to students in grades three
through six. Students expand their vocal skills as they learn to sing
in harmony. We have numerous opportunities for our 100+ voice choir to
attend field trips, such as to Town Square, Minnesota Department
of Revenue, Region's Hospital, and Ordway Center for the Performing
Arts.
Musical Theater Students audition for musical
theater opportunities as part of our gifted and talented Friday
Enrichment classes, open to all students in grades three through six.
Students meet once weekly, and the course culminates with a performance
for the entire student body.
