| Vocal & General Music Instruction | | | | Music to our ears! | Vocal & General Music: Vocal & General Music at Franklin Music Magnet provides the foundational work necessary for students to develop to their fullest music potential. All students at Franklin attend general/vocal music classes on
a regular basis. This experience includes singing, listening, movement, performing on
classroom
instruments, music reading, improvising and composing skills. Students
develop ear
training and note-reading skills as they sing and perform on recorders,
Orff instruments (xylophones, glockenspiels, etc...) & classroom-percussion instruments (drums, maracas, tambourines, etc...). All students at Franklin Music Magnet are now expected to develop their singing skills as if they are the choir. Great choir skills are a stong base for all other types of musician and musicianship training, including instrumental work. All students ("The Choir") will be performing in at least one evening concert. (See next section).
Performance Opportunities: There will be 3 evening concerts this year. The 2nd & 3rd graders will be performing in December. The Kindergarteners & 1st graders will be performing in April. And, the 4-6 grade students will be performing, in collaboration with the instrumental program, in May. Please watch for further details to come. When opportunities arise, we take students on field trips to perform out in the community. All students are
encouraged to showcase their voices and musical skills at school-wide
assemblies. Students needing more challenge
are encouraged to take private lessons. Our school is fortunate to
have scholarship funds available, through an application and recommendation/review process, to pay for private lessons. Call the school if you would like
further information.
Piano Keyboarding & Guitar Lessons: In addition, Kindergarteners-6th graders are exposed to piano keyboard enrichment classes. Small group guitar lessons are offered, through teacher review and recommendation, to 3rd & 4th graders. There are very few guitars available. Therefore, the students recommended need to be shining examples of good citizenship and work habits. They need to show Responsibility, Respect and Safety at all times. Again, we encourage students & parents to look into our scholarship opportunity.
Other music & arts experiences: We utilize various community music & arts organizations
throughout the Twin Cities area to enrich students' musical
development, including: Ordway Center for Performing Arts, The Minnesota Sinfonia, and The Minnesota Orchestra. When funds are available, we also bring performers into the school for day time assemblies.
